Benjamín Ramírez - Artist Bio
I was born in Mexico City and studied medicine at the National University of Mexico. After practicing medicine in Mexico and U.S.A., I retired from Medicine and in 2001 I entered the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia.
I graduated in 2006 and since then I reside in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
The local colors, natural light and exuberance of the tropics has clearly influenced my work.
Since art is an important part of my life, after graduation I have been working constantly and have had the following art activities and exhibitions:
2016 and 2018 – Member of the Planning, Development and Coordination Team for the artist’s meet “Encuentros de Arte de Genalguacil of 2016 and 2018”, in Genalguacil, Malaga, Spain.

From 2007 to 2014, I had annual solo shows in Merida, Yucatan in various galleries and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Yucatan (MACAY), the City Museum of Merida, and the Visual Arts Center of Yucatan.

2020 Museum of Contemporary Art of Genalguacil, Spain,“25 years of history, selected works of the Museum’s Collection”.
2016 The "5Contemporary" Paris gallery presented a group show at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Genalguacil, Spain. The show included important artists such as Françoise Schein, Mimouni and Pedro Castrortega.
Mexico:
I have participated in more than 10 group exhibitions in Merida, Yucatan.
2014 Group Show at Centro de Arte y Cultura, International Festival of Tamaulipas, Ciudad Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México.
2011 Selected by the State of Yucatan, to participate in the group show “Yucatan Abstract Art Collective”, shown at the Abstract Art Museum “Manuel Felguerez”, Zacatecas, Mexico.
