I do large abstract oil paintings
on canvas because I like the colors, texture and richness
of oil. I also like to do smaller works on paper and Mylar
using acrylic paint, pastel, ink, watercolor, gouache, graphite,
charcoal, and pencil.
I hope that my artwork is visually interesting and that it
compels people to look at it. I like people to see an intriguing
composition; exciting colors, varied shapes and marks; a
sense of space, energy, and movement; and to discover the
unexpected. I also like people to see the veiled history
of the painting by discovering the different overlapping
layers of color and marks. I would like to leave them thinking
about my work, and to wonder about how I did it.
Abstract art is very challenging. It is not easy. However,
the process of making abstraction is very intriguing and
rewarding. I hope that the viewer senses this.
